Peer Pals
{Peer Pals}
Peer Pals is a community service based club. The students who make up Peer Pals are the elite members of the Junior and Senior class. Peer Pals are particularly concerned with leaving a positive and lasting mark on the Westwood Regional Jr./Sr. High School, and the Westwood and Washington Township communities at large. To this end this year the group has undertaken a number of endeavors. The first of which is a series of assemblies coordinated through Ms. Carpino, dealing with issues such as peer pressure, bullying, drug use, and a list of others facing 7th and 8th graders in the Junior High School.
The second set of programs, under the guidance of Ms. Lent, one of the club's advisors, is two fold. The first of which is tutoring that matches up a Junior High School student with an 11th or 12th grader for one on one instruction. In conjunction with the tutoring, Ms. Lent is has created a peer mentoring program where the members of the club will be trained and matched with an interested 7th or 8th grader. A new part of the mentoring program implemented this year will have Peer Pals meeting with students from Brookside Upper Elementary School on different academic and social issues.
Finally, Peer Pals has a series of philanthropic goals. With the help of Mr. DeBlasio, the other club advisor, and several fundraising events the group hopes to raise several thousands of dollars to donate to a deserving cause.
Please take some time and explore our sight to see what we have accomplished and plan to do in the future.
