Westwood School Counseling invites K-8 Parents to "Parent's Guide to Growth Mindset” The program provides an opportunity to learn strategies to understand, develop, and promote a growth mindset for yourself and your children. Care Plus clinicians will teach effective communication strategies and coping skills to help you support your child. They will include information related to your child’s development and how this impacts their ability to meet appropriate milestones and regulate their emotions. During this presentation, you will learn how to approach your child mindfully and decrease conflict in setting expectations and helping your child succeed. Ms. Calderón, Ms. Hughes, & Mrs. . Vélez attended PD on how to build a thinking classroom in math. Building Thinking K-12 Classrooms in Mathematics helps teachers implement 14 optimal practices for thinking that create an ideal setting for deep mathematics learning to occur.

Brookside's 4th graders launched their new reading unit by experiencing a classroom transformation into StarBOOKS! A special thank you to Westwood's Starbucks for providing the cups and bags to complete the transformation. #BESTatBrookside
Brookside's 4th graders learned all about fractions! Students used pattern blocks to build different shapes and visualize different fractions. Then they used fraction dice to practice multiplying to create equivalent fractions. Fractions aren’t so scary! #BESTatBrookside

In light of the current weather predictions and with the safety of our staff and students in mind, Westwood Regional Schools will have an early dismissal scheduled for tomorrow, Friday, January 19, 2024. The district will continue to monitor the storm’s progress throughout the night. If we feel a closure is necessary due to a change of the storm’s pattern, we will notify everyone by 6:30 a.m. The dismissal schedule is as follows: Pre-School will be dismissed at 12:05 p.m., Grades K-5 will be dismissed at 12:50 p.m., Middle School will be dismissed at 12:36 p.m., and High School students will be dismissed at 12:11 p.m.

Due to the inclement weather and icy road conditions, there will be a delayed opening tomorrow, Wednesday, January 17, 2024. This decision has been made to allow ample time for our families and staff to safely commute and manage the impact of this specific weather event as well as allow our Buildings & Grounds Department ample time to ensure each building is safe for staff and students. All schools will open 90 minutes later than their normal start times: High School 9:25 a.m., Middle School 9:45 a.m., Grades K- 5 10:20 a.m., and Pre-School 10:20 a.m.
