
Tuesdays are Red Word Days! Here are friends of all ages learning new red words. Our first grade friends learned “around” and our third grade friends learned “cereal” and “library.” How appropriate for them that this past Tuesday was National Cereal Day! #BESTatBrookside

In science, 2nd graders in Ms. Iozzia's class are learning how to separate rock mixtures. They were challenged to separate three different sized rocks using screens. They figured out that certain rocks can be filtered through the screens to separate the mixture! #BESTatBrookside





Readers in Mrs. Basovsky's class are engaged and inquisitive during their Character Studies Book Clubs. They are asking questions such as: What are the main character’s traits? What do we notice about what the character is saying and how he/she is acting? #BESTatBrookside




Kindergarten students at Brookside are learning how to identify letters and sounds through multisensory activities. The more senses we use, the more we remember! #BESTatBrookside


A little snow did not stop Brookside students from dressing up as their favorite characters for day 2 of Read Across America Week! #BestatBrookside





Third Graders in Mr. Mandaglio's class stand ready with their reading notebooks in hand for a debate about a crucial point in their read aloud, Because of Winn Dixie! #BESTatBrookside




Our fourth graders celebrated the completion of their Historical Fiction Book clubs today. Students created an instagram page, memory box or diary based on their book. Peers provided compliments to each other during today's celebration. Way to be the #BESTatBrookside

Third grade students in Mrs. Eliason's Media Center constructed Milo the Science Rover out of LEGOs using LEGO WeDo2.0 robotics kits. They then used block coding to program their robots to move and make sound effects. #BESTatBrookside




Alma Thomas is the artist these first graders learned about for Black History Month with Mrs. Portelli. Students used repetition, rhythm, and movements in one direction for their composition.

Last week third grade multilingual learners at Brookside wrapped up their non-fiction reports on an animal of their choice! The students did an amazing job and were eager to share and read their reports! Mrs. LeParc is so proud of them! #BESTatBrookside


Students in 4-AC were hard at work adding and subtracting mixed numbers this week! They led the lesson on the smartboard and then participated in math rotations. Some of the fun included small group work, facts practice on REFLEX, and a hands-on fraction game! #BESTatBrookside





Kindergarteners in Mrs. Morales' class had an amazing week celebrating ninja week, Valentine’s Day and The 100th Day of School. With all this fun and excitement, we made sure to also take time to calm our minds and bodies with some mindful snow melting. #BESTatBrookside





Kindergarteners in Mrs. Gilroy's class are working hard to read, write, and spell their RED words. They were spotted using play doh, stamps, and magnets to help them practice! #BESTatBrookside





Did you know that 100 steps from Room 1 takes you to the library at Brookside? Mrs. Oldak's Kindergarten celebrated the 100th Day of School by counting 100 steps and counting 100 objects from home. It was a fun day of learning and celebrating! #BESTatBrookside
