Middle School mathematicians shine bright!





Students in 4-AC were hard at work adding and subtracting mixed numbers this week! They led the lesson on the smartboard and then participated in math rotations. Some of the fun included small group work, facts practice on REFLEX, and a hands-on fraction game! #BESTatBrookside





Mrs. Palianto visited each class at Washington School to read the book How Wonderfully Odd, focusing on our character trait of the month, diversity and inclusion. The story focused on the importance of appreciating our unique talents and the importance of accepting others.


Congratulations to Allaine Lara & Claire Eo for having their work selected for Fresh Perspectives 2023. This juried high school art exhibit is hosted by the Morris Museum. The virtual gallery can be viewed here and the inperson exhibit can be viewed at the Morris Museum, A Smithsonian Affiliate. Works on view from February 17 - May 14.

What could heating vinegar have to do with stoichiometry? Well, when vinegar was combined with baking soda, Ms. McKaba's Honors Chemistry class was able to attempt to isolate the food preservative additive product of sodium acetate to see what type of percent yield they could get!



With love being in the air this week for Valentine's Day, Ms. McKaba's Honors Chemistry and AP Chemistry classes decided to put a Chemistry spin on a typical valentine. What could be better than getting a valentine with Chemistry puns abound?




The World Cultures Club of the Middle School held their most recent meeting this week, discussing Spanish Culture. Members designed their own soccer jerseys. Some dream about goals – we make them!


In January, Washington School participated in the Great Kindness Challenge. As a result, we have been recognized as a Kindness Certified School! The class who performed the most acts of kindness was 1G, who earned an extra recess for their wonderful accomplishment!



Our fifth grade Peer Leaders demonstrate leadership and responsibility by assisting our younger students daily. They are wonderful role models for their fellow Washington students!

Our kindergarten students celebrated the 100th day of school with a fashion show! We loved seeing the creativity each student displayed in creating their own personalized shirt!





Last week we celebrated our student successes with special rewards! Our Washington Cool Cardinals winners from Sept.-Nov. and our Great Kindness Challenge winners got to enjoy an extra recess with friends :)
