Our students and teachers were surprised to arrive Monday morning to beautifully decorated classroom doors! Thank you so much to our dedicated PSO for taking the time to decorate with such creative ideas to celebrate reading for Read Across America Week! #WeAllShine@Washington

Read Across America Week is here! We kicked off the week on Monday with a surprise assembly where students competed identifying which staff members were behind the costumes! The winning classes will have a very special guest reader later this week! We are excited for an awesome week of reading fun! #WeAllShine@Washington

As we celebrate Read Across America, we welcome MacKenzie Cadenhead who is a comic book and children's book author, including working with Marvel. Thank you Berkeley PSO and Mrs. Eliason for coordinating our visit. Ms. Cadenhead will be visiting Brookside School tomorrow!

From Common Application
Class of 2026: Common App Essay Prompts will remain the same for 2025–2026.
Students will also see 2 changes to the optional “Additional information” questions as of August 1, 2025. First, the current “Community disruption” question will be updated to a “Challenges and circumstances” question to capture a broader range of impacts students may experience. Second, the “Additional information” question word limit will be reduced.
By sharing these updates now, students will have the time they need to reflect on their personal stories and begin thinking about what they want to share with colleges.

There’s nothing more exciting than seeing your 5th grade teacher cheering you on at your basketball game! Brookside is lucky to have such supportive teachers who go above and beyond—whether it’s in the classroom or on the sidelines. #BESTatBrookside

What an amazing start to Read Across America Week! We launched SEL Day, celebrating kindness and empathy through a heartwarming school-wide read-aloud and a calming meditation that united our community. A big thank you to our fantastic peer leaders and buddy groups for making the day unforgettable! I can’t wait to see the smiles, memories, and joy of learning that this week will continue to bring! #JustFocusonGrowing

Thank you kindergarteners, teachers, and parents who helped kick off our Read Across America Week.
